Set up a checkout form to sell a program or product

Last checked October 21, 2026

Build a checkout that takes payment for your product, accepts coupon codes, and sends buyers to your thank-you page.

A checkout form takes payment on your own page. The checkout form decides what's sold, how payment works and where buyers go next. The page or funnel step only displays it.

Before you start

Step 1: Create the checkout form

  1. Go to Forms and click Create New.
  2. In Choose Type, click Checkout Form.

The builder shows a yellow Builder Preview banner: payments are switched off in the builder and only work on published pages.

Step 2: Choose what to collect

  1. Click Settings and scroll to Collect from Customer. Each detail has its own switch: Name, Email, Phone and Billing Address.
  2. Keep Name, Email and Phone on.
  3. Selling something digital, like a course or coaching program? Turn Billing Address off. Fewer fields means more finished checkouts.
  4. Click Save Settings.
  5. If you'll text buyers, add a consent checkbox to the form in the builder, with Save Answer To set to your consent field. Consent is recorded only when the box is ticked. See Collect text consent and handle opt-outs.

Step 3: Choose what you're selling

  1. On Settings, scroll to What are you selling?.
  2. Choose Products.
  3. Under Primary Products, tick your product. Each shows its type (One-time or Subscription) and price. If it's missing, click Sync from Stripe, or Create Product to make one here.

Step 4: Choose the checkout type

Scroll to Checkout Flow > Checkout Type.

Embedded Card Payment (Beta) Stripe Checkout (Redirect)
How it works The card form sits right on your page Buyers go to a Stripe-hosted payment page
One-time payments and subscriptions Yes Yes
Coupon codes Yes, one-time purchases only. Turn on Allow Coupon Codes No
Order bumps Yes Yes
One-click upsells No Yes
Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna, Afterpay Yes Yes
Shipping address Hands off to the Stripe page Yes

The list under WHAT THIS MODE SUPPORTS changes as you switch types: a check means it works, an arrow means it works by sending the buyer to Stripe's page, and an X means it doesn't work in that mode.

Coupon or upsell? Pick one type

Stripe Checkout (Redirect) doesn't accept coupon codes at all. Embedded Card Payment doesn't do one-click upsells. If you need a coupon, choose Embedded Card Payment and turn on Allow Coupon Codes. If you need an upsell after purchase, choose Stripe Checkout (Redirect).

Step 5: Arrange the layout (optional)

Scroll to Checkout Sections.

  • LAYOUT: Single column, Two Col, or the order summary on the left or right (Sum Left, Sum Right).
  • SECTIONS: the parts of the checkout in order, from Header and Contact Information to Payment and Submit Button. A greyed-out section with a crossed-out eye is hidden. Make sure Coupon Code isn't hidden if you take coupons.

Step 6: Send buyers to your thank-you page

  1. Under Redirects, set the Success URL to your thank-you page, for example your funnel's thank-you step.
  2. Click Save Settings.
  3. Set the Draft / Publish switch at the top right to Publish.

Step 7: Put it on your checkout page

  1. Open the page (usually your funnel's Checkout step) in the page builder. See Build a funnel.
  2. Click +, search checkout, and add the Checkout block (under Interactive). Choose your checkout form in its settings.
  3. Save, and publish the page.
  4. If the page is on one of your websites, go to Sites > the website's ⋯ > Settings > Advanced, turn on Payment Mode so it's live rather than Test, and click Save Settings.

Step 8: Run a real test

  1. Open the checkout page in a private browser window.
  2. Buy with a real card:
    • Embedded Card Payment with a one-time product: use your $1 test coupon.
    • Stripe Checkout (Redirect), or a subscription: there are no coupons, so buy at full price.
  3. Check you land on the thank-you page, an order appears in Payments, and the buyer shows in Contacts with their name and phone.
  4. Refund the test payment in Stripe right after. See Refund a payment.

Check it worked

  • The builder no longer shows No products configured.
  • Your test purchase appears on the form's Submissions tab as paid.

If something's off

  • "No products configured" or the total is $0.00: tick a product under Primary Products and click Save Settings.
  • No coupon box: the checkout type is Stripe Checkout (Redirect), Allow Coupon Codes is off, or the Coupon Code section is hidden.
  • Nothing happens when you pay in the builder: that's expected. Test on the published page.
  • Payment went through but the buyer got no access or email: see Payment went through but nothing happened.
  • Real cards won't go through on a website page: check Sites > the website's ⋯ > Settings > Advanced. Payment Mode starts on Test.
