Add an order bump, upsell or two-step checkout

Last checked October 21, 2026

Offer an add-on at checkout, a one-click offer after purchase, or split checkout into details first and payment second.

Three ways to shape a checkout. All are switches on the checkout form's Settings tab, so set up the basic checkout first.

Option When buyers see it Good for
Order bump On the checkout, before they pay A small add-on: a workbook, a recording, one extra session
One-click upsell Right after a successful purchase A bigger next step, like moving from the course to group coaching
Two-step checkout Step 1 their details, step 2 payment Capturing a name and email before payment, or asking a few questions first

Before you start

  • Time: 15 minutes each.
  • You'll need: a working checkout form with its main product chosen. See Set up a checkout form to sell a program or product.
  • For a bump or upsell, the extra product created in Payments > Products. See Add a product to sell.
  • Check your checkout type supports it. Both checkout types support order bumps. One-click upsells work only with Stripe Checkout (Redirect), not Embedded Card Payment. You can confirm under WHAT THIS MODE SUPPORTS in Settings > Checkout Flow.
  • Bump and upsell products must be one-time products. Subscriptions won't appear in the list.

Add an order bump

  1. Open the checkout form and click Settings.
  2. Scroll past Primary Products to Order Bump Options.
  3. Switch on Enable Order Bump ("Show an add-on offer on the checkout form before payment").
  4. Fill in the fields that appear:
    • Bump Headline: short and specific, like "Add the 30-page workbook for $27".
    • Bump Description: one or two sentences on why it helps.
    • Checkbox Label: the words beside the tick box, like "Yes, add the workbook".
    • Pre-selected by Default: leave this off. Buyers should choose the add-on themselves.
    • The add-on product, picked from your one-time products.
  5. Scroll up to Checkout Sections. In SECTIONS, make sure the Order Bump row isn't hidden (no crossed-out eye). Click the eye to show it if needed.
  6. Click Save Settings.

Add a one-click upsell

A one-click upsell appears after payment. The buyer accepts with one click, without typing their card again.

  1. On the checkout form's Settings, find One-Click Upsell (right below Order Bump Options).
  2. Switch on Enable One-Click Upsell ("Show an upsell offer after successful purchase").
  3. Fill in Upsell Headline and Upsell Description, and pick the upsell product (one-time products only).
  4. Click Save Settings.

In a funnel, give the offer its own page with an Upsell step after the checkout, and a Downsell step (a lower-priced alternative) if you want one. Steps are added on the funnel's Steps tab. See Build a funnel. Products for those steps are set on the checkout or order form block on that page, not on the step itself.

Keep offers kind

One relevant add-on and at most one follow-up offer is plenty. Your buyers said yes a moment ago. Respect that by making the next step clear and easy to decline.

Turn on two-step checkout

  1. On the checkout form's Settings, scroll to Checkout Flow.
  2. Switch on Two-Step Checkout ("Step 1: Form fields, Step 2: Payment").
  3. Optional: switch on Survey Mode to ask survey questions in step 1. This turns on two-step automatically.
  4. Click Save Settings.

The form's name doesn't decide its mode. A form named "Two-Step Checkout" with the switch off is still one page.

To keep everything on one page, leave both Two-Step Checkout and Survey Mode off.

Check it worked

Payments don't run in the builder, so test on the published page in a private window:

  • Bump: the add-on shows before payment. Buy once with it and once without, and check the totals.
  • Upsell: after paying, the upsell offer appears, and accepting it adds a second order.
  • Two-step: your details come first, payment second.

Test with a near-100% coupon where your checkout type allows one. Upsell checkouts (Stripe Checkout (Redirect)) don't take coupons, so test those with a real card and refund the purchase in Stripe right after. See Refund a payment.

If something's off

  • "No one-time products available" under the bump or upsell: you have no one-time products yet. Create one first in Payments > Products. (The hint in that box says Settings > Products, which is out of date.) See Add a product to sell.
  • The upsell never shows after payment: check the Checkout Type is Stripe Checkout (Redirect). Embedded Card Payment doesn't support one-click upsells.
  • The bump doesn't appear: check Enable Order Bump is on, the Order Bump section isn't hidden, you clicked Save Settings, and the page is published.
  • The checkout went two-step on its own: Survey Mode is on.
  • The upsell step shows the wrong product: open that step's page and check the checkout or order form block.
  • The extra purchase didn't trigger your follow-up: see Payment went through but nothing happened.
