Bring back an earlier version of a page
Look at earlier saved versions of a page side by side and restore the one you want.
Deleted the wrong section, or don't like today's edits? The builder keeps saved versions of every page, and you can look before you restore.
Before you start
- Time: 2 minutes.
- You'll need: the page open in the builder.
- Good to know: looking at versions changes nothing. Restoring replaces what's in the editor.
Steps
- In the builder, click ⋯ (More) at the far right of the top bar.
- Choose Version History. The window lists versions newest first, with a count next to the title. The top one is marked Current, and each shows how long ago it was saved.
- Click an earlier version. It opens on the right with the banner "Read-only preview of Version #2. Your editor is unchanged until you restore."
- Click through versions until you find the one you want. Nothing changes while you look.
- Click Restore Version (green, on the banner row).
- Click Save (the disk icon).
- If the page is a Draft and you want it live, click Publish. If it's already live, the restored version goes live when it saves.
To leave without restoring, click X at the top right of the window.
Don't click Published to undo
On a live page, the green Published button unpublishes the page. It doesn't undo anything. See Edit and publish a page without taking it offline.
Check it worked
- The page in the editor shows the restored content.
- Open the live page in a private window and refresh. It matches.
If something's off
- Version History says "This section could not load": close it, refresh the page, and open it again.
- The version you need isn't listed: only saved versions appear, so not every small edit has its own version. Pick the closest one and redo the rest.
- You restored, but visitors still see the old page: check the page is published, then see My live page doesn't match the editor.
- The problem is in a linked section: linked sections are edited separately and appear on several pages. Open the section with Edit Linked Section to fix it. See Reuse sections across pages.
- For quick slips, the undo arrow in the top bar is faster than version history.
