Run financial reports and export your books

Beta

Last reviewed October 21, 2026

Run a profit and loss or other report for any date range, compare it with last period, and download your records as a spreadsheet.

A monthly profit and loss report shows what came in, what went out, and what's left. Exports give you a copy of your books for your bookkeeper or your own files.

Accounting is in Beta. Check the numbers against Stripe before relying on them for taxes.

Before you start

  • Time: 5 minutes.
  • Some activity recorded in Accounting, such as expenses. See Record a business expense. Reports on an empty workspace come back empty.

Run a report

  1. Go to Accounting > Reports.
  2. Open the Report menu and choose a report. [Financial] Profit & Loss is selected by default.
  3. Set From and To for the period, for example the first and last day of last month.
  4. Optional: switch on Compare to Prior Period. Prior From and Prior To fill in for you (Auto-calculate). Change them if you'd rather compare with something else, such as the same month last year.
  5. Click Run Report.

Until you run one, the panel says Select a Report.

Reports worth knowing

Report Use it for
[Financial] Profit & Loss Monthly or yearly income, expenses and profit.
[Financial] Balance Sheet What the business owns and owes at a point in time.
[Receivables] AR Aging Who owes you money, and for how long.
[Revenue] Revenue by Customer Which clients bring in the most.
[Revenue] Revenue by Product Which offers sell best.
[Expenses] Expense Breakdown Where your money goes.
[Tax] Tax Summary A starting point for tax time. Give it to your tax preparer, not the IRS.

The menu also has a cash flow report and forecast, trial balance, comparative reports, budget vs actual, AP aging, monthly recurring revenue, customer lifetime value and a vendor 1099 report.

Export your records

  1. Go to Accounting > More > Exports (in the Import & Export group).
  2. Set Start Date and End Date, or leave both blank to export everything.
  3. Under Generate Export, find the card you want and click CSV (opens in Excel or Google Sheets) or JSON (for software).

The cards are General Ledger, Trial Balance, Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, Vendor Payments, Tax Summary, 1099 Summary and Year-End Package. At year end, the Year-End Package bundles the main reports together for your accountant.

Keep your downloads

Export History at the bottom of the page may not list every file you download. Save each export somewhere you'll find it, such as a "Books 2026" folder.

Check it worked

  • After Run Report, the panel shows your report instead of Select a Report.
  • The CSV opens in your spreadsheet app with rows for the period you chose.

If something's off

  • The report is empty: check the dates, and that there's activity in Accounting for that period. Stripe payments may not appear in Accounting unless Stripe Auto-Sync is set up. See Get to know Accounting.
  • Numbers differ from Stripe: Accounting only knows what's been recorded in it. Use Stripe's reports for exact payment totals.
  • The download didn't start: check your browser didn't block it, then try again.
