Offer a discount code on a session
Create a coupon in Payments, attach it to a session type, and check clients can use it under "Have a promo code?".
A coupon is a code clients type when they book a paid session, like WELCOME20 for a new client's first session. You create it once in Payments, then choose which session types accept it.
Before you start
- Time: 10 minutes.
- You need: a paid session with booking payments working. See Take payment when clients book.
- Decide: the code, the discount (an amount or a percentage), when it ends, and how many times it can be used.
Step 1: Create the coupon
Here are the essentials. For every option, see Create a discount code (coupon).
- Go to Payments > Coupons.
- Click Create Coupon.
- Enter a Coupon name (for your records) and a Coupon code (what clients type), or click Generate.
- Choose the Coupon type: an amount off or a percentage off, and enter the discount.
- Set the Start date-time. It starts now unless you change it. Add an End date-time if the offer should expire.
- Under Coupon usage rules & restrictions, tick what you need:
- Limit the total number of times this coupon can be redeemed, for example 10 for a launch offer.
- Limit use to once per customer, for a first-session discount.
- Save the coupon.
Typing in the coupon dialog
Click into each field and type. Pressing Escape closes the whole dialog, and browser autofill may not register.
Step 2: Attach it to a session
- Go to Calendar > Services and click Edit on the session type.
- Open the Coupons tab. If none are attached, it says "No coupons attached to this calendar yet."
- Click Attach coupon.
- Find your coupon in the list and click Attach.
- Repeat for any other session types that should accept it.
The Open Coupons page and Manage all coupons buttons on this tab take you back to Payments > Coupons.
Check it worked
- Open the session's booking link in a private window (not signed in).
- Pick a time and fill in your details.
- Enter the code under "Have a promo code?". The new total shows before you pay.
- Try a wrong code too. It should be refused, and the price stays the same.
To test a full payment without paying full price, follow the coupon test in Take payment when clients book.
Turn a coupon off
In Payments > Coupons, use the on/off switch on the coupon's row. Switching it off keeps it for next time. The red bin deletes it for good.
If something's off
- "Invalid" when a client enters the code: check the spelling, the end date, the use limit, and that the coupon is attached to this session type.
- No "Have a promo code?" box: the session is free, or no coupon is attached on its Coupons tab.
- A client wants to use two codes: plan on one code per booking. If you want a bigger discount, make one coupon for the combined amount.
- The coupon's use count didn't go up: this was part of a paid booking bug fixed October 18, 2026. If you still see it, send us the booking time. See Known issues.
