Give members access to your community
Link your community to a membership plan, send clients the join link, and check what members can do once they're in.
Clients reach your community through your client portal. They join a membership plan, free or paid, and the plan unlocks the community.
Members can read but not post yet
Joining works as of Oct 21, 2026. Two things are still being fixed: members see "You don't have permission for this action" when they try to post, and your posts show the author as "Unknown" to members. Keep posting yourself, and tell clients that replies and member posts are coming. See Known issues.
Before you start
- Time: 15 minutes.
- Your community is built and seeded. See Create your community, channels and first posts.
- Your portal is set up. See Set up your client portal.
Step 1: Turn on community in your portal
- Go to Learning > Manage > Portal.
- Under Features, turn on Community Features. Turn on Show Members and Show Events too if you'll use them.
- Click Save Portal Settings.
Step 2: Check the community's settings
- Go to Learning > Communities, then open your community (click its ⋮ and choose Manage if clicking the card doesn't open it).
- Open Settings.
- Visibility: new communities start as Private (Invite Only). Leave it private for a paid or client-only space.
- Allow Posts: on, so members can start conversations.
- Save.
Workspace Access at the top of the community is for sharing it with other Flourivate workspaces. It doesn't add individual clients.
Step 3: Link it to a membership plan
- Go to Learning > Manage > Access Plans and create a plan, free or paid. See Create a membership plan.
- Expand the plan with ˅, open the Communities tab, and tick your community.
- If the plan is paid, click Sync Stripe.
Anyone who joins this plan gets the community.
Step 4: Send clients the join link
Members join from your portal's plan page.
- Copy your portal address from Learning > Manage > Portal > Client Portal URL and add
/portal/pricingto the end, for examplehttps://community.yourpractice.com/portal/pricing. - Send it in your welcome email, along with a portal invite if they don't have a login yet. See Invite clients and give them course access.
- Your client signs in, clicks Get Started under the plan and sees "You're in! Your membership is active." Then they open Community.
A free plan asks for no card details.
Check it worked
- Sign in to your portal as a test client, join the plan, and open Community. You should see your channels and posts.
- Preview in Portal at the top of your community shows it the way members will see it.
- The plan card shows "1 community" (or more) under its name.
If something's off
- The community doesn't show in the portal menu: turn on Community Features in Learning > Manage > Portal and click Save Portal Settings.
- Your community isn't listed on the plan's Communities tab: check it's active on Learning > Communities.
- A client clicks Get Started and nothing seems to happen: have them refresh the page and open Community. If it still says "Community channels coming soon," send us a request with their email.
- A client sees "You don't have permission for this action" when posting: that's the known issue above. Their reading access is fine.
