Choose your assistant's voice

Last reviewed October 21, 2026

Pick a natural-sounding voice for your AI receptionist, connect ElevenLabs for more voices, and add a talk-to-us button to your website.

The voice is the first thing callers notice. A warm, natural voice makes the AI receptionist feel like part of your practice. You can use the built-in voices, connect ElevenLabs for more choice, and offer a voice button on your website.

Before you start

Steps

Pick a built-in voice

  1. Go to AI Supercenter > Phone AI, select your assistant and click Edit agent.
  2. Open Voice & Speech. Leave Voice enabled on (phone assistants need it).
  3. Under Voice output, keep Voice provider on Built-in voices and choose from Voice list. Marin (warm, female) and Cedar (male) sound the most natural. Use the play button to preview where it's offered.
  4. Click Save.

Fine-tune how it speaks (optional)

In Call Handling > Call Settings you'll find Voice speed, Voice volume, Maximum call time, End call after silence and a Pronunciation dictionary. Use the dictionary to fix words it says wrong, such as your name or business name. Change one setting at a time and test after each.

Connect ElevenLabs (optional)

  1. On AI Supercenter > Phone AI, find the ElevenLabs Voices card and click Connect ElevenLabs.
  2. Paste your ElevenLabs API Key and save. Your voices sync automatically. The key needs permission to list voices.
  3. Pick a workspace Default Voice on the card.
  4. To make sure an assistant uses an ElevenLabs voice, open it with Edit agent > Voice & Speech and choose the voice under Voice output.

ElevenLabs on phone calls

ElevenLabs voices on phone calls need the external voice mode (Audio mode set to External TTS mode). Otherwise calls use the built-in voice. ElevenLabs bills you directly for its voices.

Add a voice button to your website (optional)

  1. On AI Supercenter > Phone AI, open the Widget tab and click Create Widget.
  2. Enter a Widget Name, then choose Widget Type (Floating Call Button, Inline Widget or Fullscreen Assistant) and Placement (Bottom Right, Bottom Left or Inline).
  3. Write the Greeting Text, for example "Have a question? Talk with our virtual assistant."
  4. Choose Call Method: Web voice (WebRTC) talks right in the browser; Call my business number dials your number (enter it with + and country code in Dial Number (E.164)).
  5. Leave Use branding colors on and choose Mobile and Desktop.
  6. Check Live Preview, then click Create Widget.
  7. Use Embed on the widget's row to add it to your site.

Check it worked

  • On Phone AI > Test, Voice Preview with a Test Phrase plays your chosen voice.
  • Call your number. The receptionist answers in the new voice.
  • The voice widget's row shows the badges you expect. Enabled and Published are separate switches, so check both.

If something's off

  • It still sounds robotic after connecting ElevenLabs: the assistant's Voice output still uses a built-in voice, or voices haven't synced. Check the card's voice count, then pick the voice on the assistant.
  • No ElevenLabs voices appear: the API key can't list voices. Make a new key with that permission.
  • A new ElevenLabs voice is missing: run a sync from the ElevenLabs Voices card.
  • The voice changed mid-call: ElevenLabs didn't respond and the call fell back to the built-in voice. The call carries on.
  • The website voice widget doesn't show: check its Enabled and Published switches and the Mobile and Desktop settings.
