Give your client portal its own address

Last checked October 20, 2026

Put your portal at an address like community.yourdomain.com so clients only ever see your brand.

When you're done, your clients sign in at your own address (for example community.yourpractice.com) instead of a generic link.

Before you start

  • Time: about 10 minutes, plus up to an hour for the internet to catch up.
  • You'll need: a login to the company where you bought your domain (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Squarespace, Google, and so on).
  • Pick the address. It has to be a subdomain, meaning a word in front of your domain. community, members, learn or portal all work well. You can't use your main domain (that's your website).

Step 1: Add the address in Flourivate

  1. In your workspace, go to Settings > Domains.
  2. Click Add Domain.
  3. Choose Portal ("For client login, memberships, courses, and communities") and click Continue.
  4. Type the full address, for example community.yourpractice.com. Don't include https://, a slash, or an email address.
  5. Click Add Domain.

You'll see a screen called Copy These DNS Records with two records. Leave this tab open.

Step 2: Add the two records where your domain lives

These steps use GoDaddy. Other companies use the same three fields (Type, Name or Host, Value).

  1. Sign in to GoDaddy, open My Products, and click DNS next to your domain.
  2. Click Add New Record and enter the first record:
    • Type: CNAME
    • Name: the word in front of your domain only, for example community
    • Value: copy it from Flourivate exactly
    • TTL: leave the default
  3. Save, then click Add New Record again for the second record:
    • Type: TXT
    • Name: copy it from Flourivate. It starts with an underscore and ends with -verify. plus your word (for example -verify.community)
    • Value: copy it from Flourivate exactly
  4. Save.

Type only the short name

GoDaddy adds your domain to the end of the Name for you. If you type community.yourpractice.com in the Name field, the record becomes community.yourpractice.com.yourpractice.com and won't work. A single extra letter will stop it too, so copy and paste.

The record values may not say Flourivate

The record values point to the servers that run Flourivate, so they may not say Flourivate. That's expected. Your clients never see them. They only see your address.

Step 3: Verify in Flourivate

  1. Back in Settings > Domains, find your new address and click the Verify DNS button (the check icon on its row).
  2. The status moves through three stages:
    • DNS configuration required: the records aren't visible yet. Wait 5 to 10 minutes and click Verify DNS again.
    • SSL provisioning: the records worked. Flourivate is setting up the secure padlock for your address.
    • Live: you're done.

If it sits at SSL provisioning for more than 20 minutes, click Verify DNS once more. That usually pushes it through.

Check it worked

  • Open your new address in a browser. You should see your portal's sign-in page.
  • Go to Learning > Manage > Portal. Under Client Portal URL you'll see Custom domain verified and your new address. This is the link to share with clients.

If something's off

  • Still "DNS configuration required" after an hour: open your DNS records and compare each character with Flourivate's. The usual causes are the full domain typed into the Name field, a typo, or a stray space at the end of a value.
  • You use Cloudflare: set both records to DNS only (grey cloud), not proxied, while you connect.
  • Invites still show the old link: invites sent before the address went live use the old link. Send a fresh invite.
